Our story

People have often been confused of why I moved 136 miles away from my hometown, my family, and friends and why I married my husband on a whim. Well, when I met Steve I fell madly in love with him as a person and I couldn't think of a single reason why we should wait. I decided to take a gamble and follow my heart, I prayed a lot and finally just took a leap of faith. A lot of people don't know our story or they don't know all of it. On mine and Steve's first official date he actually told me over dinner that I was going to marry him, this turned into a somewhat of a heated debate and he ended up knocking his glass of tea all over the table. I think most women would have been terrified and they would have run for the hills, but not me. I sat across the table from him and laughed until it hurt my sides. I have yet to be able to describe just what it is about this man that has latched so hard onto my heart, the only word I can use is love. What I can explain is how at peace and safe I feel in his presence. I also know without a shadow of a doubt that he loves me unconditionally. We do not have a picture perfect fairy tale marriage; who wants one of those anyway, fairy tales always have an ending anyways. What we do have is a lot of understanding, respect, compromise, and compassion for one another and to me those are solid materials for a sturdy foundation.

The one thing that I love most about my husband is even when he's having the worst day ever, if he knows my day isn't the greatest he will put his discourage behind him and figure out a way to make me smile. He lifts me up when I'm down and he tries to always let me know I am appreciated. We took two separate household and blended them together into one heck of a family. If I wasn't sitting here telling you, then you would never know that all 6 of our children weren't biological siblings. I am proud of the "on the whim" decision we made. It's a lot like the Johnny Cash song that says "we got married in a fever"!

This is the man that does whatever it takes to make me smile:

I married a log hauler

When I first met Steve he told me he was a log hauler and I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Even with his description of what he was, I could have never imagined what life would be like. Being the wife of a log hauler (even a logger) is a very unpredictable life. You have to have a lot of patience (I am slowly learning) because there are times when he works until all hours of the night, sometimes he doesn't work at all because of the weather, and then there are times when he's gone for days at a time working out of town. You worry constantly about his safety and the safety of his crew. When you marry a logger, you are marrying into a whole family that you knew nothing about.
Although, the lifestyle can be hard on everyone I have to admit that is worth living. My husband is rough around the edges but even after putting in anywhere between 12-16 hours a day he finds time for his family. He does everything he can to help out around the house and he holds me on a pedestal that I sometimes fear falling off. He works hard at his job, but he works even harder to be the best father and husband he can.
So, to all the logger's wives I tip my hat because I know just how difficult your lives can be and just how deep your family dynamics run!
